Stacey Hunter
I curate exhibitions and events that tell stories about our design culture.
Curation and production
I curate and produce design exhibitions and showrooms, overseeing all aspects of creative direction from concept to graphic design, styling and photography. I have created critically acclaimed programmes for cultural organisations and commercial clients that engage diverse audiences with design.

Cultural programmes
I’m a passionate advocate for the transformative power of design and the value of design culture. I founded Local Heroes in 2016 – a platform dedicated to connecting audiences with contemporary Scottish design and craft. I pioneer innovative formats for exhibitions and events, collaborating with partners across both cultural and commercial sectors. Through the creation of new, design-focused experiences, showcases, and exhibitions, I help to ensure Scottish design and craft reach not only UK audiences, but also an international stage via design fairs, festivals, and biennales. I’m proud to support and expand opportunities for designers, elevating Scottish design globally.

Product commissions and retail activations

I partner with brands and cultural organisations to design unique and exciting product ranges. Whether it is a commercial environment or a cultural event, I leverage my considerable knowledge of the contemporary design scene in Scotland to find the perfect balance of design excellence, irresistible concepts and the highest quality execution. The exclusive Daytrippers collection I developed for V&A Dundee was the biggest selling range in the museum in 2021/22.

Design-led events and experiences
I devise events that deliver unforgettable design experiences. I consult with your team carefully to shape and conceptualise the perfect visitor journey and I draw on my extensive network of creatives and producers to design and construct unique physical environments.

Research and strategy
I undertake research that helps organisations to widen their scope of knowledge or focus their position. I design sessions for teams that allow them to strategise and see opportunities to build on their strengths as well as emerge with fresh ideas. As Creative Director of Dundee Design Festival 2024 I supported UNESCO City of Design Dundee to transform DDF from a regional design festival into a national festival of contemporary Scottish design. My research report for Craft Scotland ‘Sustaining Curatorial Careers’ helped their network and funders better understand how independent craft curators can be supported in their vital role within the craft ecosystem.
Writing

I’m committed to enlivening design discourses and mapping our design culture. I write a monthly design feature in Scotland’s largest cultural and arts magazine bringing contemporary architecture, craft and design to a diverse audience and raising awareness of the complexity, reach, and importance of design to our society and economy.
I regularly create content for exhibition catalogues and edit special features for clients who are interested in producing their own design-led publications.

Press coverage
Since 2016 I have worked closely with Owen O’Leary who provides bespoke PR services for me and my clients. Our most up-to-date coverage includes features in Wallpaper*, Dezeen, DesignMilk, the BBC, Stir World, Elle Decor and The Observer.

Exhibition design and creative direction

I specialise in sustainable ways to present beautiful projects and products. From creating material palettes for clients to overseeing the procurement of exhibition infrastructure, I deliver projects that look considered and coherent.
